As we head our way towards the African Colony of Penguins, we will pass through the small town of Simon’s Town, a small town compressed between mountains and the sea 35km outside Cape Town but, full of rich history. Your guide will give a brief history of the town and we tell you stories of many interesting things that you will be seeing such as the Just Nuisance.
Simon’s Town is named after Simon van der Stel, the Dutch governor of the Cape Colony in the late 17th century. The town was established as a naval base by the British in the early 19th century and has been an important part of South Africa’s naval history ever since. The town’s historical significance is evident in its many well-preserved buildings and landmarks, including the Simon’s Town Museum and the South African Naval Museum.
The unique and endangered land – based colony of African Penguins have made this place as their home. This is where you will have the time to see the Penguins at the closest range and play, if you can, with these beautiful creatures. This colony is one of only a few in the world.
